Job Description
Job Purpose:
In the local area, the Career Mentor works with Alumni Career Services to educate job seekers about career opportunities in their related fields. The goal is to connect Career Mentors currently employed in a field of interest to a job seeker. A Career Mentor would provide professional support to the job seeker ranging from phone interviews, on-site interviews, to job shadowing. Career Mentors derive a great deal of personal satisfaction by serving fellow Alumni Association members.
Tasks:
- Provide insight into career opportunities
- Offer contacts and networking opportunities in the job seeker's fields of interest
- Communicate with Career Services and job seekers via e-mail and phone
- Distribute appropriate Alumni Career Services literature to interested people
- Establish and maintain a relationship with the local regional club
Work Context:
In large areas such as a Standard Metropolitan Area, several Career Mentors would be preferred. In other areas, one or two Career Mentors would be fine. For guidance, contact Patrick Scheetz.
Qualifications:
Must be MSU Alumni Association member
Specific Skills:
- Strong desire to serve Michigan State University through volunteerism
- Positive two-way communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Outgoing personality
- Comfortable introducing job seekers to co-workers and friends

Job Description
Job Purpose:
In local areas around the country and worldwide, provide communication links between Alumni Career Services staff, MSU alumni seeking new careers, and employers with job openings. Communicate services available through Alumni Career Services to local employers and regional MSU alumni club members. Alumni Networking Coordinators derive personal satisfaction from serving their Alma Mater, Michigan State University, and helping alumni during a stressful time in their lives.
Tasks:
- Communicate with Alumni Career Services staff members, job seekers, and employers, via e-mail and phone
- Inform job seekers, employers, and regional MSU alumni club members about services and assistance available on the Alumni Career Services website
- Distribute appropriate Alumni Career Services literature to interested parties
- Maintain a list of employers willing to hold informational interviews
- Establish and maintain a relationship with local regional alumni club leaders and members
Work Context:
In large geographical areas such as Standard Metropolitan Areas, several Career Network Coordinators would be preferred. In other areas, one or two Career Network Coordinators would be sufficient. For guidance, contact Patrick Scheetz.
Qualifications:
Must be a member of the MSU Alumni Association
